Civic and The Cotton Cafe
A Building Worth Keeping.
A Building Worth Keeping.

For a long time, most people in Wigan wanted it knocked down. Empty since 2018, the concrete block on Millgate was most recently a police HQ in an ITV crime drama. But Capital&Centric saw something worth saving.
Civic has just won a major award at the BCO's Northern Awards, recognised for setting the standard in office design, sustainability and fit-out. Judges called it a Masterclass in conservation-led retrofit and a symbol of optimism for Wigan.
The original waffle ceilings, terrazzo staircases and corduroy concrete are all still there. Carefully restored, not covered up. Hot desks, flexible memberships or private offices are all available, alongside free community workshops on business growth, sales and leadership.

Downstairs, Cotton Cafe is the beating heart of the building. A relaxed working space and community hub hosting events, pop-ups and people who just need somewhere good to think.

Currently home to ReDoo 4U, a sustainable fashion project collaborating with Uncle Joe's Mint Balls on a drag queen costume made entirely from sweet wrappers. Only in Wigan.
