Open Night 17th March

Wigan Arts Festival opened its doors with a packed launch night at the iconic Wigan Pier. Artists, makers, performers and guests gathered to kick off two weeks of creativity across the town.

Put together by two students from Wigan and Leigh College, supported by TERM School of Art, the exhibition brought together artists of all ages and backgrounds. For many it was the first time their work had ever been shown publicly.

The night started quietly. Then all of a sudden you couldn't move. People stood in front of the work, talked about it and meant every word.

Open Night set the tone for the entire festival. A celebration of local talent, community spirit and the shared excitement of bringing art to the heart of Wigan.

‘It gives everybody a chance to see what's happening under the surface.’

Anna Smith And Klaire Doyle from TERM School of Art.
